Art
is Primary is an experimental after school arts program for
elementary schools designed by artist/museum director Cecil Touchon.
Art is the
beginning of all human knowledge and the goal of all human aspirations.
Everything we know about the history of mankind we know solely from the
artistic objects that have been preserved. The arts consist of music,
dance, poetry and literature, visual arts such as painting,
photography, drawing, collage and sculpture, architecture, design,
performance and theater which, by extension, includes all audio-visual
media such as TV, movies, etc. When you add science and math to the
equation then an artist is called an engineer. Engineering covers the
more practical aspects of art. Virtually everything we all
experience on a daily basis is designed for our use and enjoyment by
artists, engineers and
designers. We cannot escape our relationship to
the arts - we are immersed in them from the clothes we wear to the
vehicles we drive, the homes we live in, the highway systems we
traverse, the products and packaging we use - all carefully designed
for us by artists, engineers and designers. We depend on art everyday,
it is of primary importance in every aspect of our lives. Even if we
don't ever think about those who construct the world we live in, they
are thinking about us - always working to make the world a better place. |
